Mahi Tahi Workshops for 80 Tangata Tiriti and Tauiwi

This mahi involved workshop co-design, voice collection and delivery over five days. Staff from Tamaki Regeneration were facilitated through various connecting and collaborating tasks unpacking the differences between Te Tiriti and The Treaty of Waitangi, and working on bringing the collective treaty knowledge together to then be able to co-create next steps.

As for many organisations and groups thinking about how Te Tiriti can apply in everyday work. The challenge was not enough allocated to being able to discuss and come to shared understandings and agreement about ways forward.  There was a lack of understanding about what being Te Tiriti responsive meant, and what role as Tangata Tiriti they could have for future work.

PROCESS

Mapping and co-creation of the mahi-tahi workshops was done with the senior leadership team.  There were 5 groups over 5 days that gathered each for 1 full day.  Each workshop followed the same structure so that key insights could be shared at the end.  A series of collaborative tasks were done throughout the day ending in creative group presentations of their key learnings.

IMPACT

Allowing time for people to voice opinions and worldview, and unpacking everyone’s knowledge and skills together meant that there was a deeper understanding among the group. Participants gained more confidence in approaching work with the shared Te Tiriti lenses, and they identified potential next steps with input from all groups.
