Strategic Thinking & Strategic Planning + Facilitation & Support
Arama facilitated the Hui E! Board of Trustees and kaimahi wānanga through collaborative strategic thinking and planning, as well as in developing a new collective purpose with a focus on Te Tiriti responsiveness. Parts of the facilitation included exploring perspectives, challenged assumptions, and incorporated diverse worldviews to reach unified agreement. Phase two of the wānanga focused on articulating the desired outcome and identifying their strategic direction.
Hui E! sought an external facilitator to navigate the intersections of cultures, supporting and challenging the group over two days. The aim was to facilitate strategic thinking and planning, ensuring equitable representation of both Te Ao Māori, Te Ao Pakeha as well as Te Ao Tauiwi, with the additional focus of upholding Te Tiriti responsiveness.
PROCESS
The process involved identifying strengths from the past, assessing the present, and envisioning a desired future state. In the co-governance arrangement of Tangata Whenua and Tangata Tiriti, the focus was on surfacing different views, valuing differences, and aligning similarities where possible. Over two days, the Board collaboratively articulated common goals and shared agreement within the Board’s Te Tiriti based governance structure.
IMPACT
The outcome was a more unified group with shared understanding as they set new strategic focus areas for Hui E! The group has a more collaborative and cohesive approach as they embark on the future desired state with renewed enthusiasm and clarity.
IMPACT STATEMENT
“Arama helped guide our team through a two-day process to articulate a new vision for our organisation. No easy feat! We then agreed on three strategic focus areas for our next stage of strategic planning. Arama has a flexible approach which allows for a natural flow of ideas to be generated. Her approach to intercultural collaboration was what we needed and surfaced some challenging differences across our team. Arama navigated these differences beautifully.”
