Kaitiaki & Kaimahi
He uri tenei o Ngāpuhi, Te Mahurehure.
I tipu ake ai ki Whirinaki.
No Hokianga ahau.
I am a descendent of Ngāpuhi, Te Mahurehure in Hokianga. It is there that I grew up.
I currently live in Whangārei with my tāne (partner) and our three daughters. After migrating to the city, West Auckland, I was drawn to physiotherapy through sport and studied this at AUT. After graduating, I realised I wanted to bring a social justice lens to my work, which inspired me to further study Māori Health, focusing on equity, systems, and culture. I spent 13 years working as a Physiotherapist across Aotearoa and Australia and wherever I could, I advanced Māori health systems in the organisations I was with. My journey has taken me across clinical services, clinic management, executive leadership and governance.
If I could have a superpower, it would be Sonic the Hedgehog teleport rings. Then I could get to in person meetings or take my family on holiday instantly.
My favourite comfort food is chocolate self-saucing pudding with French Vanilla ice cream (or custard).
Walk Together drew me in with its Mutual Ways philosophy and key principles, which align with my efforts to bridge Māori and mainstream health spaces. Its framework resonates deeply, offering the language to articulate what I have been working toward over the years. Connect with Emma on Linked-in
